I've been playing a lot lot of Cassette Beasts lately! It's such a fun game!!! I have trouble putting it down, I'm actually a little sad that I won't be able to play it for the first time again. But on the other hand, it's really great for me to have a fulfilling-length game with clear reasons to play on if the itch needs scratching. I have such a big backlog wishlist of games I want to play -- that said, this game makes me super happy and I feel lucky to be able to play it. Maybe that's a bit too effusive of praise, but I am really enjoying it.
Music is absolutely jammin' and the vocals being added in is SO GOOD! I love a good "music power-up", and that makes every difficult battle feel worth it! Plus there are so many neat and fun beast ideas, Vendemon as a design is my bestest friend. I really like a lot of them honestly, but I had a lot of fun seeing beasts and new forms for the first time, so I don't wanna spoil too much right now!
In the context of monster games (Pokemon is the elephant in the room there) I think I really like how they handled type advantages and weaknesses. I'm realizing in retrospect that Pokemon's handling of it makes battles a damage/KO race at times. For context, I'm not really a competitive battler, and I do respect the competitive scene and all its wild quirks that are only possible as a result of how Pokemon is built! Still, I find that advantages creating buffs or debuffs is very interesting and keeps an individual fight going longer. Also it's just very funny that being hit with disadvantages many times makes it feel like you have every disease. Yes I have Unitarget and AP Drain, bring me a bowl of soup please.
I think that I'm nearing the end of the main story thing, and I have to say, there have been several instances where I feel like someone writing has a similar appreciation of sentimental stuff as I do which keeps on making me smile. All the partners are nice friends to make, and I liked all their events and quests, I find myself appreciating some more than I expected to. I dunno! Just a nice time. Makes me happy learning about them and seeing what they do.
Honestly I'm probably an outlier, I didn't look up a single thing about this game before diving in, I just got the recommendation and had a good feeling about it, and saw that it was on a flash sale, so I grabbed it and started gushing to my friends immediately.
Sorry for the long-winded post (not really, it's my blog) but I really can't recommend it enough. It's definitely a smaller game but I think that works in its favor!! I hope that people check it out and spread the love, I dream of an expansion to see them make more for the game. But if not, it's a wonderful package as-is. :) Oh yeah, and it seems to be quite moddable, which is a great bonus.
